946 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Stars Around the Well
Location: Counseling Office | USS Arcadia
Timeline: Before the Civilians left in shuttles

ON:

Fang headed to the counselor's office. He rang the chime reviewing in his mind all the to do items from the evac list. He wondered briefly if the counselor would be sending her son with the rest of the Civilians who wanted off.

Inside Lanna was keeping busy tidying up the children’s area of her office, having recently had a visit from a family. “Come in Fang” her voice rang out loud and clear.

He entered. "Hello Counselor. Sorry to bug you but we have a big job and only a few hours to get it done in."

“So I’ve been hearing” Lanna smiled briefly as she stood up and walked over to her seat, motioning for Fang to join her. “I’ve had a few visits from worried people.”

"Well the truth of it is that we don't know where we are going but we can get anyone that wants off the ship off. If something does go wrong we can save as many as possible who are not officers but we can't force anyone to leave. We have to figure out how to get the message out and then get the shuttles ready."

Lanna nodded, she had a knot in her stomach at the thought of whether or not she should let her son go and be safe, not that she wanted to send him away. “We should make an open announcement to the crew, let them choose what they want to do. I, for one, am very...uncertain what is best.”

"As are many. I'll make the announcement but this...will be hard for you as the counselor. We have hours and many will come to you for help. How can I, as the XO, help you deal with this. What do you need?"

“To be honest I’m not sure” Lanna paused. “I’d say more staff but we don’t have more Counsellor’s onboard. I’m supposed to advise them and yet I’m struggling with the same decision they will be. What to do? What’s best?” She looked at him curiously. “What would you do Fang?”

"Honestly we may need to rely on the medical staff as well to take a counseling role and I hate, hate, hate, to say this but Sabastian is good as an empath he's spooky good at getting people to figure things out on their own. The only thing we can do is work as a team and help as many people as possible, and assure those who stay they will be safe."

Lanna nodded. “Then I will work with Sabastian to help as many as I can. I want to keep my son onboard, but I need to be sure it’s the right decision. It’s something Jarin and I will have to discuss.”

"Well we have a long day ahead of us. In twelve hours those shuttles leave."

“Twelve hours?” Lanna rubbed the bridge of her nose, she was tired already and things were going to get busier and more stressful. “I guess we need to get that announcement made then.”

"I'll take care of that. Call your team. I'll send any staff that have counseling background your way. My engineers will help load the shuttles. We have to get the point across that they take only necessities."

Lanna nodded. “Understood, I’ll do my best to support people as much as I can. Whether they stay or go I’ll be here to help.”

He gave a nod. "Thanks counselor."

“Not a problem Lieutenant” Lanna smiled warmly.

Fang left the room and shortly after a ship wide announcement was made.

With the announcement made Lanna sent notification to Sabastian that his assistance would be required, along with calling in anyone she could find listed with counselling or psychology experience. Time was of the essence and she would need the help with the influx of people who would be looking for advice.

The ship started buzzing with noise and worry. It took Sabastian a few moments to hand over con an he headed down to Counseling. It had been a while since he'd used his empathic skills this way. He reported to counseling and walked in, as the office door was open. "Hello Counselor. You called and here I am.” He smiled.

“Sabastian, Thank you for coming” Lanna offered a warm smile. “I know you’re not a counsellor but as a Betazoid your empathic skills could come in very useful in helping people. We’re going to be very busy over the next twelve hours.”

He gave a nod. "Anything I can do to help. Zai is in the shuttle bay with Vance helping there and he will talk with people too since he's an empath." He looked over at the counselor. "We're going to have to do a lot of blocking and mental guards for this. I promise I will help as much as I can."

Lanna nodded. “As much as I hate doing it, if I’m going to get through this with my sanity intact I’m going to have organize using an inhibitor. I don’t like to use them but I think it’ll be best. Just set at a low level so I can still use my abilities though.”

"I have some techniques I could teach you when this is over. I actually spent a year on Vulcan in a monastery that showed me a lot of blocking and cleansing ways."

“Really? That could be very useful.” Lanna smiled warmly. “Once all this is over we’ll talk. Thank you Sabastian.”

He smiled. "Okay, let's get the storm rolling."
