960 words; about a 5 minute read
Mission:
Stars Around the Well
Location: Starbase 2 - Coffee Shop
ON:
Giovanni Baciami, oldest of the Baciami siblings sat in a coffee shop on base waiting for this "Vance" he'd heard so little about. He was protective of his sister, that was certain. He's taken a dislike to Vance, in the same way he did any man who got close with Adrianna. All of the brothers, and Adrianna's father, had a 'guilty until proven innocent' policy when it came to love interests for Adrianna.
He'd arrived early and had ordered an espresso, as was the Italian way. He was reading through a PaDD. Fang had sent over the information required about Jason, a definite reason for the guilty until proven innocent policy. He shook his head, before looking up for a moment and seeing Vance. Gio recognised him from a ship roster and stood up, waving him over.
Vance was going to kill Sabastian, if he made it through this he was going to vent him. He straightened his shoulders and walked over. "Captain Giovanni Baciami I presume since you and Adri share a lot of features. I'm Vance Reggimi..a name your sister lent to me." He grinned.
He held out his hand. "I'd appreciate if you didn't break it...engineering and all."
Giovanni shook his hand and smiled, finding his surname entertaining, "Reggimi? Hold me? Interesting surname."
He shook his head and gestured to the seat opposite as he sat down, "stick to Gio and I'll stick to Vance." He sipped his espresso and then put it down, "my mother told me some things, but I'm afraid that all my sister has said is that I need to get on board because you're it for her." Giovanni had more of an American accent than Italian.
He smiled like an idiot. "She did?"
Gio nodded, "I know my sister. I know what she meant when she said what she said."
Realizing he hadn't sat down yet, still grinning like an idiot he sat down. "We'll I can echo that she's it for me too." He chuckled. "She said that?" He looked like a kid at Christmas.
"Focus, Vance," Giovanni shook his head, "regardless of what was said, she's my sister. I'm sure she has told you about us being protective. I won't sit here and lie to you -- I have concerns."
"She has told me but she loves you all nonetheless and I will not be marrying her unless I meet you all. I told her right out the gate only after I get your permission. We've talked a lot about it before the accident."
He nodded, "I can appreciate that. The fact of the matter though is that you have led two lives, of which-- the one is very questionable. What would you do in my position? I know that you would do anything for my sister, but my hesitation comes from knowing what that has entailed. Should something happen, and my sister is no longer in your good books-- what then? You going to blow her up?"
He laughed. "I'd rather detach my limbs personally." He sighed. "Fact of it is...how much do you know?"
"I don't," came the honest response, "but you understand my concern. I can't let it slide without knowing everything. It can stay between us. My father and other brothers don't need the heart attack."
He laughed. "Well do you have some time I can tell you everything. My past is a part of me and I won't hide it. If we're to be family I have to be honest."
Giovanni nodded, "for my sister-- I have all the time. Tell me what I need to know to help my decision for the question you want to ask me."
"Well first off. I'm not a fan of Grappa. Have to be honest. Not an insult but that stuff is worse then Blood wine on the intoxication level." He shuddered. "One glass had me tweeting like a bird. Your sister has the video to prove it."
Giovanni snorted, "yes, it's not for everyone. Although Adrianna can drink like a Klingon at Oktoberfest." He sipped his coffee, "next?"
"I started out in the Academy. Washed out since my solutions weren't exactly...fleet issue. Anyway I got work elsewhere. I met your sister at a poker game. She saved my life...well to be fair she was sent by Starfleet to monitor me and bring me in if necessary." He snorted. "Told her I was gonna marry her the first night that I met her."
He sighed. "She became part of the crew and well a lot of my plans were foiled by her. I knew I had a Fleet spy. Kind of pissed me off for five seconds and then I was like whatever, My failure helps the good guys and they throw me the bones that are not so bad.” He shrugged.
“ Eventually I figured out your sister was the Fleeter undercover and I swear I loved her more. Not only was she intelligent and fierce but able to separate work and love...although I did for a short time doubt her feelings. I decided that if they weren't real then I'd live in the dream that they were so I kind of put it in the back of my mind who she was and why she was there." He shrugged. "Had a retirement plan for myself and when I asked if she'd join me she said yes and then I knew her feelings were real." He sighed. "That's the cliffs notes."
Giovanni was silent a moment, thinking and suddenly putting two and two together, "Wait-- oh gawd-- you're the guy that almost drowned me by pushing a clown into me!"
Vance blushed. “Ummmm yeah.”
