Mission: Stars Around the Well

ON:

When Adrianna finally got back to her quarters she felt dead on her feet. In truth, she didn't know what to do first: eat, shower or sleep. She stood in the hall, looking at each room in turn, mulling it over. Finally she came to the conclusion of showering, eating then going to bed. Adrianna felt like she smelled of an ashtray from all of the fires on board the ship and it would taint any food she went to eat.

From showering, she grabbed some fresh pajamas and sat in the kitchen nursing a mug of pastina soup from one of the ration packs. Her eyes were struggling to stay open but she needed to eat, and she could feel a migraine coming on from the lack of sleep and flickering lights. With the bowl pressed to her lips, but not angled enough to sip, the steam and aromas hit her senses encouraging her soul to be soothed. It did the job, but with it, came her eyes closing. She prayed that Vance would be home soon– at least they could keep each other awake so that they could eat.

Vance had been run off his feet. He was starting to remember why he disliked Starfleet; all the paperwork in addition to the actual work. He had showered in the Engineering locker room and wandered around the ship a little to clear his head. The away mission had been ... disconcerting. He sighed as he headed to the quarters he now shared with Adri. As soon as he entered the quarters he shared with Adri he found her dozing. He smiled. "Sleepy?"

Adrianna jumped out of her skin, almost dropping the soup but managed to save it without spilling a drop. She mouthed off in Italian-- enough to make a Romulan blush before taking a breath, "don't do that! You scared me!"

He laughed. "Oh man...sorry I shouldn't laugh but I love when you swear."

She glared at him, but it soon turned into a chuckle, shaking her head, "thought I would attempt to wait up for you. The light is broken in our room and-- well, you know." She looked back to the soup and started to drink it.

He smiled. "Yeah." He sat down next to her. "What a day, huh?"

Adrianna nodded, "I don't want another mission like that." She sighed, "ghost stories and all." She paused and put her head on his shoulder, "listen, I know what honeymoons are supposed to be for, but I think we should spend out down time sleeping."

He laughed. "Yeah. Besides we'll have one once we get shore leave. I have an evil plan." He yawned.

She raised a brow, "evil plan?" She sighed, "come on, whilst we have been away you know that my family have been planning our actual wedding. Please tell me that you are not going to do something too ridiculous."

"Oh not until after the wedding."

She raised a brow, "ok... You have me intrigued." She put the soup to her lips once more and gestured for him to elaborate, "in fact-- tell me whilst you fix the light in our room. You know how I feel about the dark. The fact I'm a grown woman that requires a nightlight is mortifying. I blame you."

He laughed. "One light, coming up." He stood and headed to fix the light. "Ohhhh it's an old tradition in the space pirate community with respect to weddings. I'll let it be a surprise after the wedding. Your brother knows. He has been helpful."

"As if I was not scared enough about the wedding night," she grumbled before finishing her soup and following him to the bedroom, but not stepping in because of the dark, "at least give me a hint so that I may brace myself. In return, I'll see if I can get you a call with someone from the Pendragon."

He laughed. "Trust me it will be fun. Actually Gio made a comment off hand about it and I was like okay let's roll with it."

Adrianna frowned, "I don't like surprises Vance. How about two calls with people from the Pendragon for a mere clue?"

He grinned. "How about....You save it for a surprise and I go get your surprise that I asked Ensign Telber to hold for me."

Adrianna looked at him cautiously, trying to figure out if he was trying to get himself killed (at her hands). Regardless, reluctantly she nodded and stepped aside. "I'm working on it, you know. Trying to get you a call 'home', so to speak," she offered a small smile, "I have been since before the mission. I know you're nostalgic and miss aspects of the lifestyle."

He smiled. "Not as much as you think. I just like the less rules part." The light went on. "Perfect! You go take a bath and I will be back with your surprise."

"I've just had a shower," she replied, "I couldn't stand smelling like an ash tray any longer. Either way, my point remains-- I'm trying, ok? I know you miss Lutz especially." She wandered into the bedroom and got in under the sheets, and grabbing a hair bobble to put her hair in a bun. she had to admit, she'd become quite accustomed to sleeping in the same bed as him. It felt like old times, but without the fear of him finding out her truth as she slept.

He smiled. "Alright then I shall be right back." He hurried out and about twenty minutes later the door hissed open. "Adri...you still awake?"

She looked up and nodded, stretching. He accent was thicker, her ability to speak reducing with every passing minute, "just about, Amore mio. Waiting for you to come to bed."

"Close your eyes."

"Cucciolo, if I do, I may fall asleep," she grinned but did as told, with a soft sigh.

Suddenly there was a small sound and a little yelp and then a patter of small feet as a small puppy rushed into the room.

Adrianna's eyes widened and looked at the small pup, "I will stop calling you cucciolo, Vance. It means puppy." She reached down and scooped up the pup, "Buonasera, bello." She looked back to Vance, "I don't understand, is it a robot? Or did someone have puppies on board?"

He laughed. "One of the crewmembers her dog just had puppies so I picked one out."

She smiled and cuddled the pup, "is this your way of saying that you don't want to share a bed anymore but you'll give me this little teddy bear instead? Our marriage already failing?" She smirked and chuckled unable to keep from laughing as she settled down onto the bed. The pup seemed to take a liking to her and curled up instinctively, falling asleep snuggled in tight to her, "he's a sweetheart. Thank you, Amore mio."

He grinned as he changed and slipped between the sheets. "I wanted to surprise you." He reached out and took her hand. "I know it's rough being away from your family so I thought this might help." He grinned. "And we could tell your brother he's become an uncle...scare him."

"You tell him that and I cannot guarantee your life," she yawned, "either way, Vance, you are my family. You are my husband and my life. Without you I am lost. Pendragon or not, you're still the captain of my h--" her words trailed off as she fell asleep.

He smiled. Tucking the blanket around her he kissed her forehead. "Good night love."
