Message transcript between Adrianna Baciami and Vance Reggimi (nee Adams)

-----------

Vance: "You know, it’s ridiculous how much I miss you. Feels like we're back in the old days and you were ‘returning home’ for a few weeks between jobs. Starbase 2 has everything– except the one person who matters."

Adrianna: "Ah, il mio Capitano, always so dramatic. You’re making me sound like a missing component in your grand plan."

Vance: "You are the plan, Adrianna. The rest is just... scenery."

Adrianna: "Hmm, such sweet words. Are you sure you’re not just trying to distract me from the fact that you’re far away and have a man doing your dirty work– aka hiding cazzo chickens everywhere?"

Vance: "Guilty as charged. But tell me– how’s life on the Arcadia without me there to charm you every second?"

Adrianna: "Quiet. Boring. I’ve even started missing your jokes, if you can believe it. Zai’s no substitute and even if he was, he's not feeling so extra lately. And gawd, Fang is being super weird. He's too happy. I keep thinking back to the old days when it was just me and you on the bridge of the Pendragon. Me laughing at your terrible jokes."

Vance: "Terrible? You laughed at every single one."

Adrianna: "Only because you looked so pleased with yourself, amore mio, well, and I was flirting. Women lie about what's funny when they first start dating. Either way: it was endearing."

Vance: "Endearing, huh? I’ll take it. But I’ll tell you a secret: I think about you constantly, Adrianna. Even when I’m supposed to be working. With my mind back, I just want to make up for lost time and be with you– pick up where we left off."

Adrianna: "Constantly? That sounds dangerous. Distracted engineers make mistakes, you know."

Vance: "Not this one. You’re my motivation, not my distraction. I've even been thinking about the gadgets you inspired. Remember the ball with spikes. I actually found a use for them– your brother, Gio– great guy by the way– wants to use them in a twisted version of russian roulette with your other brothers."

Adrianna: "Flattery… It will get you everywhere. If you keep this up, I might actually forgive you for being so far away and ’dying’."

Vance: "Oh, I’m counting on it. Besides, you won’t have to forgive me for much longer."

Adrianna: "What’s that supposed to mean?"

Vance: "Nothing... just that surprises are always better when you don’t see them coming."

Adrianna: "Vance Adams, if you’re hiding something, I swear!"

Vance: "Relax. Just keep missing me a little while longer. It’ll be worth it. Speaking of surprises... you’ll never guess who I bumped into earlier."

Adrianna: "Oh? Who? And don’t say something ridiculous like a Ferengi trader with more chicken stickers for me."

Vance: "Tempting, but no. I ran into Jason."

Adrianna: "...Jason Frankley? Was he lost on Starbase 2?"

Vance: "Not exactly. He was with your brother Giovanni of all people. Seemed like they were getting along. Small galaxy, huh?"

Adrianna: "Mio Dio, Giovanni and Jason? I’m almost afraid to ask what they were talking about."

Vance: "Relax, nothing scandalous. Jason actually seemed like a decent guy. I can see why you were with him."

Adrianna: "That’s... unexpected. He’s not exactly your biggest fan."

Vance: "He didn’t say anything bad about me– mostly. In fact, I think he’s come to terms with everything now that we've had a chat. I’m grateful, honestly. If he hadn’t let you go, we wouldn’t have found our way back to each other– not like this anyway."

Adrianna: "You’re really saying this? No jealousy? No snide remarks? Are you feeling okay, Vance?"

Vance: "I’m fine– he was the company you needed at the time. A nice interim. I know where your heart is now, and that’s all that matters. Besides, if I’m being honest, it takes a strong man to step aside for someone else– someone better. I can respect that. I would have struggled to have let my future wife go."

Adrianna: "You’re being oddly gracious. It’s unsettling, but also... sweet."

Vance: "Don’t get used to it. I’m still me, Adrianna. But for you, I’ll try to behave... most of the time. I promised your brother that I'd be good too. I have opinions on the matter, and I know that you are not being honest about what happened with Jason, but I trust that you handled it on your end."

Adrianna: "Most of the time? I suppose I can live with that but don’t think I won’t ask Giovanni about this meeting. If you’re hiding anything, I’ll find out."

Vance: "Me? Hide something? Never. You’re the one who’s impossible to fool."

Adrianna: "Good. Because I plan to hold you to everything you’ve just said, Capitan."

Vance: "And I wouldn’t have it any other way, mia futura moglie."

Adrianna: “Learning Italian, amore mio?”

Vance: “Your mother doesn't speak standard. I want to make a good first impression when I meet her in a few weeks.”

Adrianna: “I will help if you're serious. It would be nice to be able to communicate with my husband before coffee. I know you tried to learn before, but it's been a while. Equally– I'm smarter in my native tongue.”

Vance: “My future wife, I will do my best. I've never been one for languages though. Why do you think I hired you as a translator?”

Adrianna: “Thought it was for my good looks and charm.”

Vance: “Well, it helped… but people are happier to speak with a human than a computer translator. Found negotiations so much easier with a beautiful woman than using a translator.”

Adrianna: “Glad to have been of assistance, Capitan.”

Vance: “You shouldn't call me captain anymore.”

Adrianna: “You will always be my captain. Even if I am higher ranking than you, now. The man I fell in love with, and who I am still in love with, is a captain at heart and you will be the captain of mine. Gawd, I feel like I'm writing one of Sabastian's merde poems.”

Vance: “Make it engineering related and you might.”

Adrianna: “...”

Adrianna: “ “

Adrianna: “...”

Adrianna: “Life without you is like dereferencing a NULL pointer…

You must be a systems engineer, because you integrate well with me…

Are you a magnetic field? Because I’m getting attracted to you with a force that’s inversely proportional to the square of the distance between us…

Are you made of copper and tellurium? Because you’re Cu-Te and I’m checking you out…

Are you a circuit? Because you’re complete me…”

Vance: “Oh Gawd! I am crying with laughter! Stick with your usual chat up lines. My favourite will still be: ‘I’m going to have to ask you to leave, you’re making everyone else in here look bad’. That was the best mission we did together– you pretending to be my wife so that I'd look like a family man for that deal.”

Adrianna: “Hardly pretending… more practicing. I thought you'd finally kiss me that night.”

Vance: “You were worth the wait.”
