Personality & Traits
General Overview | Oscar McDonald is undoubtedly one of the finest medics and surgeons in the fleet, with many commendations earned during his many years of service to prove it. As often is the case, such brilliance is offset by a few relatively minor shortcomings. Minor in his mind at least. Be it as a physician, researcher and even an occasional spell as teacher, Oscar McDonald’s has always become known for his irritable nature, short temper and tendency to hurl first editions of text books at fleeing med students. For this reason his childhood nickname of ‘Oscar The Grouch’ tends to follow him everywhere. A name he earned at boarding school as a young boy and which - perhaps - he may encourage on occasion if he gets bored. Nicknames aside, he confesses to having no patience for fools or mistakes which could cause harm to his patients. He expects the same impossibly high standards of everyone around him, from fellow physicians to the technicians and his respect undoubtedly needs to be earned. He believes in order and processes, in science - yet medicine often requires a creativity and willingness to trust your gut. Something he does often. Becoming a doctor was always in his future and while over the years he has become a husband (four times) and a father; however, he has never been comfortable sharing his life with another person and ultimately his marriages have always ended albeit usually amicably. He has no wish to be everyone’s friend, just to do his job go home and unwind writing peer reviews to highlight flaws in newly published research. |

Strengths & Weaknesses | + brilliant doctor with decades of experience + calm in a crisis + speaks his mind - if on his staff, he expects perfection and doesn’t tolerate mistakes which could compromise patient safety - his temperament means he cuts a lonely figure although he personally enjoys the solitude |
