Name Kelly Kerrigan

Position Commanding Officer

Rank Lieutenant Commander

Character Information

Gender Male
Species Human
Age 35

Physical Appearance

Height 5'9"
Weight 160 lbs
Hair Color Brown
Eye Color Brown
Physical Description Kelly appears to look like an ordinary Human male with a strong chiseled jawline as one of his more prominent features in addition to his silky warm brown hair often styled in a sort of rockabilly quaffed arrangement with plenty of product to maintain it. The extra strength foam has a resilience for the everyday active nature of a Starfleet bridge officer even during turbulent times. His brown granite eyes add a seasoned stare to his good looks and natural charm though the sights and sounds of war and atrocities have aged him prematurely with wrinkles and what must certainly feel like the weight of a solar system on his shoulders.

Commander Kelly Kerrigan has boyish good looks but the discipline of maturity in how he walks the corridors of his starship and stands with his arms either behind his back or crossed, resting against his chest. There is rarely a moment that one will catch him slouching or displaying poor posture. Under six feet in height, he knows he must utalize every bit of good posture that he can. Being given command of the USS Arcadia even temporarily has given him a bit of imposter syndrome, but he tries his best not to let that reflect in the eyes of the crew.

Family

Father Colm Kerrigan
Mother Clara May Kerrigan
Brother(s) Callum Kerrigan - Kerry's adolescent brother who's curiosity and inquisitiveness is insatiable. Cullum has become entrusted in his big brother's care following the death of their parents. Callum idolizes his brother but has his own hobbies and interests. Though he's studious like Kerry, Cullum is far more adventurous.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Never one for the limelight, Kelly Kerrigan has also been a supportive individual, a team-player rather than a leader. He is great in social settings as he takes the time to engage and converse with people by learning about what they like or are interested in. He has a good memory retention and holds onto this information to utilize whenever needed. With a service background of a more clerical nature as a records officer and administrative support aboard a spaceport, Kelly is an excellent communicator and troubleshooter; meticulous in note-taking, great at data analysis, and efficient in operational strategy.

Though he's not one to be the center of attention, Kelly is bold and vivacious. He is very goal oriented and when he's set on chasing his dreams and meeting his goals he can show a cheerful and admirable determination in doing so. Almost viewed as 'gifted' for brainstorming and synthesizing information, Kelly is often exhilarated by the rush of listening to other ideas and by the pleasure of being spontaneous, preferring broad overviews and the excitement of the initial stages of the creative process where he may take the ideas of others and integrate them with his own.

Commander Kelly Kerrigan can easily be described simultaneously as a 'pencil pusher' and 'people pleaser' which makes for a uniquely adaptive person. Kelly is tactful, soothing, and diplomatic. Not known for raising his voice unless absolutely necessary, he approaches situations with an open-mindedness. He always enjoys meeting new crew and excels at mingling with others, being approachable and socially engaging. You can often find him in crew lounges and recreational areas building connections with the crew.

He wants to be seen as the responsible figure who can balance out the turbulent elements around them. Kelly feels an intense amount of guilt and shame when they are unhappy because they know that their unhappiness affects everyone around them. Kelly can bevcompassionate and empathetic as a person and he's willing to go out of his way to help others. Kelly dislikes conflict and avoid confrontations. These traits lead him to more easily be manipulated by others.
Ambitions Commander Kerrigan would be the first one to state that of course he one day dreamed of sitting in the Captain's chair of a starship, but his first command in his mind was years away and a much older and smaller starship such as an old Walker class. At 34 years old, he was not Starfleet's youngest First Officer as that honor goes to a much more rambunctious and youthful man named James T. Kirk; however, Kerry Kerrigan has been trusted into the Captain's chair prematurely and wants to prove to Starfleet, the crew of the Arcadia, and himself that he belongs in the Captain's chair perhaps now more than ever. He truly believes everything in the universe happens for a reason. This is his moment.
Hobbies & Interests Kelly enjoys a good Irish Coffee when he's not on duty, but is never far from a good warming mug of tea or a cold Roy Rodgers. His prefers black teas such as Assam and Ceylon though he's always willing to try different things.

Personal History A dapper and suave an individual, Kelly Kerrigan was born in 2224 on the Federation Colony on Tarsus VI, a world rich with mineral resources including a trove of which were crucial to Federation reactors used in powering facilities and contributed to the engineering of starships. Kelly was the son of a bureaucrat that became a political advisor to the Governor of Tarsus VI, and his wife, a steadfast solicitor. It was a small colony of less than ten thousand.

His family resided in New Anchorage, the largest city on the mining colony and though it was more populated than other areas, it was not even remotely known for any serious educational offerings. Kelly’s mother was providing legal representation for a group of miners when she went into labor, and he was delivered at a small colony clinic and was fortunate that a Starfleet physician was there to perform a routine inspection of the colonist health as her pregnancy had been a bit of a rough one.

Kerrigan’s family’s roots were Earth, French-Canadian mostly with some Irish ancestry. When he was a teenager, Kelly was sent to live with relatives that resided in Manitoba because his grades were slipping on Tarsus VI. His parents sought to give Kelly the best chance, and Tarsus VI was not it. He attended St. Paul's High School of Manitoba. As Kelly buckled down on his schoolwork and started to make friends, he discovered more about himself.

Instead of going to university as his parents had planned for him, Kelly opted to continue his studies at Starfleet Academy in San Francisco. There, Kelly concentrated his focus on communication and linguistics. He took a handful of science courses in anthropology and sociology, but his minor was history. He graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2246 and earned his officer’s commission as a newly minted ensign assigned to USS Narbonne under the command of Captain Aurobindo Korrapati.

One of his first missions aboard the Narbone as the ship's Records Officer was being aboard when the starship was dispatched to his homeworld of Tarsus VI which had been stricken with a by blight caused by an exotic fungus months prior. He knew that things were bad. His latest correspondence with his parents had indicated as much, but when Captain Korrapati pulled the young ensign aside privately to his quarters, Kelly was not prepared to be handed the news. A Federation supply ship had arrived at Tarsus VI to find the planet in turmoil and disarray. Over four thousand colonist had been murdered by Governor Kodos, the very man his father had served under.

Kelly was unable to contact his parents. It had been weeks since he heard from them last, and his worse fears came to fruition when the USS Narbone arrived. His own parents had been among the thousands killed by Governor Kodos. The man himself had been found burned to death. It was indeterminable whether he had been killed by one of the colonists or had escaped prosecution for what he had done by taking his own life. From that day forward, Captain Korrapati became like a second father for Kelly as he remained with the Narbone for several years.

In 2250 he transferred to the USS Icarus as junior communications officer. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and gained more bridge time, something he rarely was able to do aboard the Narbone as Records Officer. The additional seat time on the bridge of the Icarus over the next five years was one later would gain him an opportunity to serve as Aide-de-camp to Commodore Stone, Portmaster of Starbase 11.
